Please familiarize yourself with the magazine* before submitting a query. Our focus of strictly doing stories on people from the Black Hills area distinguishes us from other magazines. We do not publish stories on events, time-sensitive issues or causes, and deliberately avoid stories of a controversial or political nature. Our goal is to always present people in the most positive light. Because we strive to bring out the personalities of the people we feature, we seek a writing style that is upbeat, intuitive, thoughtful and personal. We believe that this can only be achieved through in-depth, face-to-face interviews. A dispassionate, “just the facts, ma’am” journalistic style does not belong on the pages of Faces Magazine. With this in mind, we prefer to work with seasoned writers who can readily adapt their style to this venue. As we are a quarterly publication, please query three months in advance and be mindful of seasonal materials. We accept queries and/or manuscripts via email or standard mail. In your query, please describe the content, structure and tone of the proposed article. Please be as specific as possible about why the person you are choosing to write about is unique—and why you are qualified to write about him/her. Feel free to include writing samples and/or a brief listing of your education and publication history.
